I used to feel conflicted about using the term “church service” and leaned towards using less explicitly religious language like “meeting” or “gathering.” However, over time, I’ve come to appreciate that “service” is actually a suitable and meaningful way to describe it.
The concept of “service” is frequently subject to misinterpretation due to its connection to the notion of “serving.” According to the Bible, the concept of service for Christians involves a profound shift from idols to serving the living and true God. This implies a significant transformation of beliefs and actions.
The concept of serving someone typically involves the act of giving things to that person, whether it’s through acts of kindness, tangible gifts, or other forms of assistance. In the context of our church “services,” we often perceive these gatherings as opportunities to demonstrate our devotion and service to God by offering our time, resources, and gratitude. This understanding is rooted in the belief that presenting our best to God is an integral part of our relationship with Him.
